SMART Launch – Young Adult at Risk Skills Training Employment Program

WHAT IS SMART LAUNCH?

SMART launch is an innovative FREE skills training employment program for young adults at risk to gain the skills necessary and exposure to the future world of work anticipated as part of the 4th Industrial Revolution.  It’s a unique experience that allows for participants to carve their own path to employment through supported one on one employment coaching, weekly group sessions and regional employer visits along with access to a variety of supports.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Young Adults aged 18-24 that are not in school, unemployed or precariously employed and face one of the following challenges to employment, such as:

  • Housing instability
  • Not completed high school
  • Current or former youth in care
  • Criminal justice involvement
  • History of addictions and substance abuse
  • Diagnosed mental health

WHAT IS AVAILABLE?

  • Have the opportunity to travel to other regional centres and meet employers to see what’s happening for employment
  • Get certificates like Foodsafe, First Aid, Traffic Control based on your own identified need
  • Access to funding for longer term occupational skills training opportunities
  • Wage subsidies, job coaching and placement support
  • Refreshments, transportation, childcare supports and equipment/clothing allowance is provided
