Anitra grew up in Slocan City. After completing a travel agent course at Selkirk College, she moved to Vancouver Island, where she received a Bachelor of Arts (double major in English and History) at the University of Victoria. She then received a fellowship for graduate-level studies in journalism and editing. She spent 15 years in Greater Victoria working for a local government and then at the University of Victoria in the faculty of graduate studies. While in Victoria, she served on the Board of the Greater Victoria compost education centre. She also initiated and oversaw the construction of Canada’s first municipal green roof project. She returned to the West Kootenays in 2008 to work for the City of Nelson and then the Regional District of Central Kootenay. After seven years with the RDCK, Anitra spent an action-packed summer of 2017 working with Emergency Management BC. She then joined the Kootenay Career Development Society team, where she served as an employment counsellor and, later, a RAFT facilitator. Anitra is grateful for her KCDS experience, as she had a lifelong dream of becoming a career counsellor. Anitra considers her three years at KCDS to be the most rewarding of her work life and is delighted to serve on its Board of Directors. She considers herself an unofficial ambassador of KCDS and loves telling people about its incredible programs, services, and staff. Anitra is now the corporate officer at the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. She is also the Slocan Valley Historical Society’s vice president and the West Kootenay Boundary chapter of the Local Government Management Association. She and her husband, Greg, live in Trail but spend much time in the Slocan Valley, where they own property along the river. Anitra loves kayaking, gardening, writing, cinema, travel and spending time with family and friends.
