WorkBC Wage Subsidy Program

WHO?

The Wage Subsidy program is designed to benefit both employers and job seekers; employers receive financial support to help offset the costs of hiring and onsite training while new hires acquire skills and experience on the job. The result is a successful match with employers gaining trained workers and the job seeker securing long term sustainable employment.

The Wage Subsidy amounts vary, depending on the amount of training required for the position.

WHAT?

Key points about eligibility:

  • The position must be full-time with a minimum of 35 hours per week
  • Employers are encouraged to pay a competitive wage, commensurate to wages paid for similar positions
  • Commission only and piece-work positions are not eligible
  • The position must be permanent and sustainable after the subsidy ends
  • Maximum amount of the subsidy is 50% of the sustained wage, for a maximum duration of 24 weeks
  • The employer cannot hire for positions where employees have recently been laid off
  • Business must be registered with Canada Revenue Agency and up to date with source deductions
  • Business must be registered in good standing with WCB coverage and in compliance with BC Labour Standards
  • Must have been in business for a minimum of one year

Job Seeker Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must be unemployed
  • Be actively looking for full time employment
